Samhaim was their New Year celebration, but took place on November 1st. This date marked the end of the harvest time and the beginning
of the cold season. They associated the winter, which is dark and cold, with death. They also believed that on that night, the boundary
between the living and the dead was distorted. During the celebration, they wore costumes made of animal skins and heads. When the Romans
conquered the Celts, their holiday Feralia, was combined with Samhain. Eventually, the tradition was combined with All-Hollows Day,
or All Saint's Day. The night before was called All-Hallow's Eve, thus the name Halloween was born. Today, the tradition continue,
primarily with synthetic costumes. All the things we associate with Halloween, dunking for apples, black cats, jack-o-lanterns,
trick-or-treating, etc., came from the various types of people who celebrated Halloween and these traditions were passed on.
